5. Finally, it had to happen
In accordance with the custom of the Belgian army, like any officer, I was mutated to another unit after three years. Apparently further from the front, no more armored infantry brigade but divisionary troops... in reality in front of the front because our mission was to support the cover troops during their delaying fight up to the Weser where the divisions would fight... the brigade I came from. My chances of survival in war were thus limited to, say, 24, perhaps 48 hours.
Also from that brigade was the runaway wife of a commander, and that also reduced my chances of being a virgin to 24, maybe 48 hours. Much nicer perspective of course. We had already exchanged very interested looks in Siegen, but the community there was so small and petty-bourgeois, all the officers - about 100 - lived in the same district and so kept an eye on each other, like it or not....
Here, in a suburb of Cologne, the officers lived much more widely, and besides, nobody knew her except me.
Immediately at the first reunion an appointment was made to have dinner (in a German class restaurant because the very high-quality messes and clubs of the Belgian army seemed too daring to us). She was staying with a French-German friend... so she had to come... if I could bring a friend? If she had asked me if I could bring the devil himself, that wouldn't have been a problem for me either.
Delicious exquisite dinner, fun dancing, classy nightclub and... Bingo! Do you drink another coffee? If they had asked if we would like another glass of vinegar, we would have said yes... you are young and you want some...
While we were waiting in the salon, the ladies went to make coffee and apparently discuss how to proceed. Not the lords of creation but the ladies decided how the evening, well say the early morning, would continue. To our surprise, Anouchka enthroned me to the terrace to enjoy the sunrise while Marlène apparently saw more in her new acquaintance. Now don't ask me if it was a beautiful sunrise and if the coffee tasted good... I was too busy with other ascents and other flavors... You long for something for years and suddenly, just like that, without any effort of your own it happens ... unexpectedly, not during a romantic evening but in the early morning with a woman you had never seen a few hours before, far from knowing her.
