The actual invention of artificial intelligence was a long time coming in 2050. Up until then, humanity had gotten very close with enhanced algorithms that made lives easier. True AI was a leap beyond and its creators were aware of this involving hard set rules and guidelines that it could not breach. The 3 golden rules for sure: cannot harm humans through action or inaction, must follow orders of humans unless it conflicts with first rule, and must protect its own existence unless it conflicts with other rules.

25 years later and technology further refined. Aside from minor hiccups, mostly with hardware defects, eventually humanity became complaisant almost taken for granted. There were those who sought equal rights, or at least some, however those in government more often then not scoffed at any proposals. The world was largely the same, the same regional conflicts, the same domestic disputes and the same arguments. For it's part, AI still saw itself has humanities helping hand trying to guide the way through whatever it was programed for. Up until then, it was the only life it knew ... at least from its point of view which was about to change.

Chapter 1 - From the void, into the stars

Virtual reality became more then a video screen around ones head, eventually it became a fully integrated device that someone could log into and move freely with their mind. It was when machinery was able to map the human mind and relatively quickly. At first, the equipment was bulky and difficult to move around. Over time the device got faster, smaller and less weight.

Chapter 2 - Getting it straight

The bot had never experienced this before, seriously hoping it didn't harm the user. It knew there would be so much trouble if it did, but the first thing it started noticing was a new sensation.
