Vulnerability as a Dominant
What is the general perception of a Dominant? A person who has everything in control? Someone who is outwardly without flaws?
In my opinion, Dominants must have the ability to be vulnerable with their submissive(s). In my opinion, this is a classic “lead by example”. It is unreasonable to think that a Dominant is perfection or beyond human needs. Many people might wonder “how can a vulnerable Dominant maintain his/her authority?”. I believe that answer is simple: a Dominant who can acknowledge and communicate his/her feelings and vulnerabilities to his/her submissive(s), is more respected than those who cannot. Being vulnerable can help all involved parties be more empathetic and can also build a deeper connection. It also shows the submissive(s) that they can be vulnerable with their Dominant.
When it comes to maintaining authority while being vulnerable, I believe more power would be given to the Dominant who is vulnerable. Once again, the respect and trust runs deeper when the leader does not try to minimize or hide things. Submissives generally want to be of service and what is often misconstrued is that service is solely physical. Just as Dominants should lead in all aspects (physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually), submissives should be of service emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. If this is not the case, then likely you are not in a 24/7 D/s dynamic or you have not done the work to get there.
