Mike's Blog 13: Clarification

I've stewed over this from the beginning. Should I? Because if I'm honest with myself, I never thought I could do this justice. I usually write about my own experiences, but this just isn't me. So I tended to either ignore or brush over it. Now... I know that this is one sided, and I apologize for it, but try to understand me. I didn't consider them to be my audience and that my blogs would interest anyone from this, admittedly big, group is something I never expected. But my blog about 50 shades seemed to have hit a nerve. I've received some critique about, and I quote "Trashing that amazing book you narrowminded idiot".

First: With what did I trash it!? I said that it's a good book. I said it is well written. I just don't like it. The Bible us a good book, but I don't agree with a lot of what is written there, too. It's an opinion. Learn to live with it and go annoy someone else. And now to the critique I will actually accept, because it had background and a reason.
Some of you complained that I had the wrong perspective and it didn't address it's value to the mainstream. And that it is something I tend to do. You're right.

Like I said in the first paragraph, I never expected anyone from the mainstream to be interested in my blogs. My motivation was to give advice and share my experiences with those who are serious about trying to live a life in the "scene" or want to know what that would feel like. And while I don't think I failed at that, I didn't hit the mark either. Instead it became a hybrid between guideline and explaining. I'm happy with the way it turned out, but at the same time missed to address the general public and stayed with my originally intended audience. A mistake I intend to rectify.

Revisiting the list, I already tried to incorporate the role play thought a little more. And I found it rather difficult to do. Many of the "rules" don't apply for them, instead there are other things to keep in mind. Simply the fact that is mainly curiosity and not a "desire" what fuels their games is a difficult thing for someone who never experienced it that way to wrap his head around. I suppose the same can be said if you look at things from the other side. I know that majority of people isn't like me / us, and I accept that fact. Diversity is what makes life interesting.

So in the future I will try to address both, the curious "roleplayers" and those interested in the deeper materials. I might even work together with some of the commenters, meaning asking for their opinion. Because like I said, it's hard to imagine their POV. Especially where their interest would end.

Back to 50 shades, I know that it is used by a lot curious couples as a blueprint for new adventures. And for that purpose, it can be a helpful aid. But at the same time I stay true to my opinion. This is not reality, nor is it close to it. And it's not meant to be imitated at home. Like pleasure said in the comments, reports of injuries due to experiments based on the book are increasing and that's why I repeat it.
Do not try this at home. Ask someone with experience, maybe a friend or people working at a SM club. You don't have to be ultra serious about it, just to get some hints from a professional. I mean, if you visit a cooking class, that doesn't mean you have to open a restaurant. It's the same with maybe a roping class at a club. They are fun, show the basics and you dramatically lower the risk of injury.
Next time it'll be a more interesting topic again.

Have fun!
