Mike's Blog 17: B, BD, DS, SM, BDSM?
B, BD, DS, SM, BDSM?
Hey friends! Come, sit and join hands, it's time for Uncle Mike's vocabulary school again. Today's topic: Bondage, Bondage-Discipline, Domination-Submission, Sadomaso and BDSM. Or as I like to call it "Why is it so hard to understand the difference?"
I know, I promised a viewer's choice episode, and that's what 18-21 will be (yes, there were a lot of resposes) but for now let me focus on one thing that's been bugging me for months now. Roughly twice per week someone makes it into the final interview for becoming a friend. Usually without noticing, because it's just talking. And more often than not, we ask about interests and tendencies. Let me give you an example.
Me: Do you have any experiences with bdsm?
Them: Yes, but just being tied up. No pain or anything.
Me: So, just bondage then?
Them: Isn't that the same?
Now, don't misunerstand, I don't mind that most people don't know. In fact I don't expect "amateurs" to know the difference, but this happens with a lot of SM active coupes. so I figured I might as well explain it once and fo all.
B: Bondage
This is what causes most misunderstandings. Bondage does not include pain. Ever. The idea of bondage is to surrender control. To be tied up and rely on your partner. And that's all. It can include sex, maybe a slap on the ass, but no spanking or anything... Yes, that's all the is to it. Might sound too easy, but that's just because it is.
BD: Bondage-Discipline
This is what most people think of when they hear bondage. BD includes being tied up as well as corporal punishment. Most "BDSM" sites like for example most of the kink.com sites show BD while claiming to show BDSM, most likely because BDSM is more well known.
DS: Domination - Submission & SM : Sadomaso
The lines between DS and SM are very very blurred. I already hear the smartasses yelling 'no its not, they are something different entirely'
In theory, you're right. But let's be realistic here. They go hand in hand. One without the other is nearly imposible to do. So why is that? DS means that a dominant partner gives tasks and the submissive has to, you guessed it, submit. So far, so good. But the second any kind of punishment is introduced, it becomes SM. That includes mental punishments, like having to complete a certain task that the dom gave knowing that the sub doesn't like doing that kind of thing. So you see, it's hard to separate.
SM, by definition, means that a sadistic partner 'challenges' a masochistic one. A classic example would be to make the sub bend over, take X hits with a cane and not resist. Also, it includes no restraints, or it becomes BD.
BDSM
This is kind of the freeform version. It can include bondage, bondage-discipline, domination-submission or sadomaso in any combination. ... ... yeah. End of story.
I hoped this helped and gave you some overview.
Have fun
