NFL Playoffs: Conference Championship Predictions
I'll do this early so I don't forget later this week. I'm in the middle of moving while convincing my girlfriend that our relationship can survive a longer commute, and lord knows I can't remember to do things when something else becomes my central focus. Went 3-1 on my picks yet again. Now things get incredibly tricky...
New England Patriots over Denver Broncos: I know this is now the second time I have picked against the Broncos. Let me assure you I'm not a "hater", as most people have now resorted to calling anyone whose opinion doesn't match their fandom (because God forbid someone has a different opinion). I'm a huge advocate for dubbing Peyton Manning the greatest quarterback on the planet. That said, the Patriots are playing a little bit better right now. Whoever wins will likely do so by the slimmest of margins (basically, a touchdown or less). I'm just betting on the Patriots running a very efficient game to try and take Manning and the offense out of rhythm. The Patriots can't stop Manning, but they can potentially contain him.
Seattle Seahawks over San Francisco 49ers: I'm really struggling with this one. I think both teams are playing at the exact same level right now. Once again, this will be a very close game. Are we sure that the 49ers are playing THAT MUCH better than the Seahawks right now? I know the 49ers offense has more potential to make plays while the Seahawks offense has been sluggish. However, the Seahawks defense is still humming. Also, keep two things in mind: one, the 49ers have struggled in Seattle (they have lost to a combined score of 71-16 the past two seasons); two, it's hard to get back to the Super Bowl. Would I be shocked if the 49ers pull this off? Of course not, I just doubt it will happen.
