Wow its been 20 years
So let's see June 17th 1994 I had just spent another afternoon/evening on the basketball court instead of the more responsible activity which would have been studying or doing my homework ( yeah your boy had a nice jumper back in the day & some serious ups ). I come in ready to sit down and watch game 6 of the finals with a fresh bowl of ramen noodles & what do I find on my T.V ? The most infamous slow speed chase in history !!
Now granted preempting Knicks vs. Rockets that year was no huge loss because in that particular series both teams seem offended by the idea of putting the ball in the basket. But this was the Finals and the thought of something else being must see TV over the product NBC had paid millions of dollars for to get the right to broadcast was unthinkable !! Well here you have it enter Orenthal James Simpson. Hall of Fame Running back charismatic TV personality & pitch man and accused murderer.
Supposedly he was just a " person of interest" but nope O.J didn't see it that the man who made a living running away from slow white broncos ironically chose that as the worst get away vehicle in history. Even more astonishing is even with him driving @ a speed Jason Vorhees could have walked him down at the L.A.P.D was clearly not motivated to handle him in their typical fashion. Tucked away in the backseat with his BFF Al Cowlings at the wheel and a handgun to his head he had just captured the imagination of the world .. again
There are so many layers to this case , so many ways to look at the way it impacted society & pop culture then and now. From the chase, to the fact OJ had some dude living on his couch lol, and to the trial and eventual acquittal. Now before I go any further I know 2 people lost their lives in a very gruesome manner and I by no means am here to make light of that or delve into the blow by blow details of the case & the trial itself. But look at the stars that emerged from it. Judge Ito, Kato , and of course his dream team of lawyers, Johnny Cochran, Robert Shapiro, Alan Dershowitz, & Robert Kardashian ( that last name sound familiar ? ) yes the fact that the Kimyae wedding is a deal can be traced back to him or hell blame OJ if you like he hired him !!
And lets not forget the lead investigator on case LA police chief and confirmed racist Mark Furman. Unfortunately it boiled down to this if you were black O.J was innocent, set up by the man, an All-American hero who had his demons but know way he could butcher 2 innocent people could he ? And the other side... I'll let you guess which one that is. So October 3rd 1995 6th period french class the verdict comes in Not Guilty... what ? I missed horrible NBA basketball a year earlier for nothing ? Ford ceased production of a fabulous SUV for nothing ? Well not exactly for nothing... We got a great quote " If it don't fit you must acquit " or pullout depending on your method of birth control but anyway. We learned back then what we know all to well know in the age of social media. When it comes to our celebrities and superstar athletes no matter how well we think we know them, no matter how many games they win, no matter how many commercials or bad Naked Gun movies they star in they all have demons and are capable of unspeakable acts. Chris Brown, Tiger Woods, Ray Carruth ( google him or google worst escape plan ever should net the same results ) David Carradine who thought he would meet his demise jacking off in a closet in Thailand.
The list could go on forever.

You get the idea. 20 Years ago there was no twitter, no instagram, no facebook, & no xhamster ( and thank god the last one wasn't around or it might have taken me 6 years to get out of high school) so the OJ's of the world could hide there demons until it was too late.
