A love letter to C.M Punk

3 years ago today Phillip Brooks gave wrestling the biggest shot in the arm it's had in years. For those that don't recognize the name he's a sometimes guest host on "Talking Dead " past celebrity guest at comic con, & the man who once threatened to curb stomp Chris Brown over twitter. I know him as C.M Punk the best wrestler in the world, my favorite superstar since the attitude era & the man who for a time I wanted to run away and start a life with lol.

On june 27th the night after their " Capitol Punishment " pay per view ( a pay per view I was at by the way & felt was underwhelming at best ) Raw that Monday was a pretty much a playback of the night before including the same main event. At the end of night enter Punk, donned in a Stone Cold Steve Austin T-Shirt took a seated position at the top of the stage and delivered one the greatest shoot promos ever. For those that don't know what a shoot is in the wrestling business it's basically when a wrestler goes off script either in the ring or on the mic. Usually frowned upon my management and can go unnoticed by the casual fan. And for butterflies officially grew in my stomach.

During his 7 minute tirade he made unflattering remarks about the McMahon family, the talent Dept. & the writers all of which are big no no's and went as far as to mention rival promotions which is a punishable by death in the wrestling industry. Before you read on it's pretty much mandatory that you watch the following clip to grasp what I've written to this point and what is soon to follow in the rest of the blog .. Cue man crush clip !!!

Ok let me try and & translate.. " I grind away 300 days a year on the road night after night. I've become clearly the best in ring talent you have in this company but because of weird body builder fetish Vince McMahon & Paul Levesque ( HHH) have people like Dwayne " The Rock " Johnson can leave for 10 years to go make crappy movies and walk right back in take the spotlight I should clearly have at the biggest show of the year " Punk was at the end of his contract that year 2 weeks from walking away from the company unless he was given the opportunity to be the man. To be booked in the main event matches he had deserved after building up a following of die hard fans and earning the respect of all those who understand the craft.

Instead he gets a 2 week suspension off of T.V & was put at risk of not headlining the Money In The Bank pay per view which was to be held in his hometown of Chicago. Needless to say the brass decided should go on. What happened on the night of Sunday July 17th can be defined in no other word but awesome. When he walked out in his best in the world T-shirt ( see avatar for logo ) and with the theme song " This Fire Burns " playing behind him he received one of the best crowd pops maybe ever ( crowd pop means crowd reaction ) & meant official Fan Boy time for me !!

Finally the face of the company ... the main eventer & his well deserved recognition. A tattooed comic book nerd was the main draw that night and for the next 400 plus days. Behind closed doors I'm sure Vince and his staff of writers couldn't stand it. Fast forward to January 2013 Royal Rumble " Dwayne " wonders in from Fast & Furious IDK where they # 73 ( rest in peace Paul Walker ) and Punk again is forced to play second fiddle to a part timer so the Rock & John Cena can give us a horrible WrestleMania rematch. Punk was given his shot vs. The Undertaker to tackle the streak but we all know he wasn't going to be given that kinda heat. Back to the mid-card for the next 12 months with promise after promise of better storylines & better matches to no avail. Finally early this year Punk walks out when a skinny jean wearing out of shape Dave Bautista fresh of filming " Gaurdians of The Galaxy ( which looks like it could be awful ) prances in and takes the spotlight again away from Punk. But instead of another pipe bomb, Punk at the age of 35 tired of abusing his body retires :(


This is what the WWE considers main event worthy !!

So what now for Punk ? Or I guess we can call him Phillip Brooks again !! He married his GF and my future stalking victim A.J Lee earlier this year who was not without her pipe bomb & shoot promo moment dishing her true feelings on the fellow Diva talent and her feelings on their annoying E Network reality show.. cue the hot piece of ass !!

In any event even though he's now gone from the sport & the business I love so much. His impact from is still felt. Because of him a performer like Daniel Bryan can have this moment.

Because he is errr well was the best wrestler in the world without being the stereotypical roid freak maybe the game has changed .. hopefully so but a piece of my heart is gone. Come back to us Punk please !!
