The days it sucks to be a sports fan !!
As I sit here finishing my lunch & watching the black fish continue to chase the white fish around the tank ( make what you will about that ) here in the office I keep thinking to myself why is today so bad ? Why am I letting the fates of a bunch of dudes that 6 figures a year affect my life the way it does ? Those of you who don't follow sports or live in a part of the world where there is no emphasis on sports at the college or pro level probably have no clue what I'm talking about or just think I'm a nut job but the fact of the matter is tonight if the Nationals get swept away by the Giants after finishing the season with 96 wins and the Redskins ( yes we can still say that word for now ) get rolled like a joint on national T.V by the Seahawks which we all expect to happen tomorrow here in the D.C area the mood will be as if the president was shot !! Again there are those of you who are probably saying to yourself this dude is insane no way it'll be that bad well ask those in SEC country ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ue-pajcHB0g )Do you know what the mood was on both sides of the state after that ? No I don't think so today it's more like Sadomasochism .. we know the pain is coming but it's like we enjoy it or we enjoy being angry. So many times as fans we run to the darkness !! That one may have been a blindsider but most of the time especially on days like this there is just something you feel as a fan that rock bottom is coming. So leading up to this debacle Redskins star Sean Taylor was murdered days before this loss Buffalo in his home in Florida !! After an already emotional week for fans dealing with that thanks to Hall Of Fame coach Joe Gibbs in his 2nd stint as head coach of the franchise not knowing the rules and calling back to back timeouts lowly Buffalo was set up for a game winning FG aaaand !! game over Heart Break !! But why on earth did we think it would play out any differently ?? 2010 Enter Mike Shanahan and enter Mike Vick fresh of his prison stint with the Philadelphia Eagles doing what I fully expect to happen to us tonight dropping 59 points on our head & earning enough money to buy a lifetime supply of dog food. The blowout was highlighted by this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hn7uTh_p2oQ ) & this was after a bye week with extra practice !! Oh I can't believe I gotten this far and forgot to mention this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NO58NRNxQ4Y ) Can't leave the Wizards out of this !
2012 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RWleUGJ2gs ) We didn't deserve this !! Yet maybe we did oh boy ... best record in the NL just like this year 1 strike away just like Saturday and Drew Storen decides to stay in character.
So after we get that bad taste out of our mouth we are given new hope. A savior has arrived.. An athletic freak with a charisma not seen before in years in the burgundy and gold and a nickname that caught on like wildfire and spread like herpes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7cE_ImWctY) I mean after all he was black Jesus what could wrong .. No I'm serious he was black Jesus
So after a NFC East championship and the city ready to lay out 4********s for him this happens http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8rnPjr6U1c So yeah and fortunes have gotten worse since. I have no hope for tonight .. All of the above examples detail why we on days like this we feel as if a part of our soul is about to be taken away !! Tomorrow if fate plays out the way I anticipate, the weather will be worse, people will be ruder than normal, and all the talk will be shoulda woulda coulda & so on .. In major cities around the country were communities are dependent on sports to bring us together it also tears us apart from the inside out !!
