NFL What We Learned Week 8

Chicks dig touchdowns !!! At least that's what we've been led to believe after last week by the NFL. We had 4 teams top the 40 point mark this week, two of them cleared 50. 9 QB's tossed for over 300yds 4 of them clearing 400yds led by Big Ben's career high 522 & 6td against the Colts. This is where football is headed as I eluded to in the college report earlier based on all the rules now favoring the offense and everyone at the college & pro level falling in love with up tempo type spread offenses, all the best athletes are moving to that side of the ball it's a perfect formula for games like that. Also more scoring more offense means the attention of the "casual fan " ( chicks ) will be easier to grab !! Speaking of grabs Tom Brady's favorite target ( Rob Gronkowski ) made 9 of them for 149yds while Cardinals star Larry Fitzgerald got going with 7 catches for 160. Speaking of lots of scoring ... Unlike my NCAA report I was able to get through the lead part of this blog without any porn mentions unless this counts

Elsewhere around the league ...

- I admit I was wrong !!! In my season preview not only did I predict Chicago would win the NFC north & make the NFC championship game I also predicted that Jay Cutler while by all accounts maybe is not an elite top 5 QB I figured he's good enough with the playmakers at his disposal he would put up MVP numbers and that this could be a career year for him. Well after Sundays 51-23 loss to the Patriots ( a game in which they trailed 45-7 @ 1 point ) they are now 3-5 & 0-3 at home of all things. And while Cutlers stats may look good on the surface ( 2,093yds & 17td ) his untimely turnovers & lack of leadership is what has everyone distressed.

- If the NFC south is the worst division in football than the AFC north may very well be the best. After Sunday all 4 teams are above .500 including the 1st half surprise of the league the Cleveland Browns. And the more they win the more assured we become that Johnny Clipboard will not see any snaps this season.

- Speaking of Big Ben & the Steelers I really @ some point need to do a NFL best & worst dressed blog uniform edition. I've always thought the Chargers were at the top of the uniform game with the Bengals and their year round Halloween look pulling up the rear but what the Steel curtain wore out on Sunday was more offensive than the 51 they put up. Those bumblebee prison uniforms are god awful and need to be retired immediately ... although they do open the door to a new fight song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QV1RGMLUKE
