Fetishism With a Pinch of Partialism
I have many sexual kinks and fetishes. Some of them have been there since I was **********, while some others appeared later on. For example the “women wearing stockings/lingerie” fetish has always been there. Today I was sitting here trying to understand what those fetishes might mean and if they mean anything at all. So I started a little research in order to better understand the psychological implications of such “interests” I have.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines sexual fetishism as "an erotic attachment to an inanimate object or a non-genital body part whose real or fantasized presence is necessary for sexual gratification. The object is most commonly some other body part or an article of clothing. From the time of its identification by Sigmund Freud in 1927, fetishism was thought to occur almost exclusively among men, but in the late 20th century that notion was challenged by several new studies.”
Now, I don’t need the presence of the “inanimate object" for my sexual gratification. Maybe I am not a true fetishist. The "inanimate object" can make the whole experience more exciting, and can increase the libido. But again, in my case its presence is not a "necessary" condition for sexual gratification.
I also find what the Merriam-Webster dictionary says about the "non-genital body part whose real or fantasized presence is necessary for sexual gratification" kind of funny. So, if I have a fetish for women butts, I’d better choose a woman that actually HAS a butt in order to find sexual gratification…lol. Guys, make sure your women have your favorite "non-genital body part" or forget about your sexual gratification! I understand masturbation might be included in the "sexual gratification" category too, but it still sounds funny.
I find Wikipedia’s definition of sexual fetishism a better definition than Merriam-Webster’s one (with all the limits that Wikipedia might have). Wikipedia defines “sexual fetishism or erotic fetishism as the sexual arousal a person receives from a physical object, or from a specific situation. The object or situation of interest is called the fetish; the person who has a fetish for that object/situation is a fetishist. A sexual fetish may be regarded as an enhancing element to a romantic/sexual relationship “achieved in ordinary ways (e.g. having the partner wear a particular garment)” or as a mental disorder/disorder of sexual preference if it causes significant psychosocial distress for the person or has detrimental effects on important areas of their life. Sexual arousal from a particular body part is classified as partialism.”
Check “partialism” out, you may find interesting things about yourself as I did. I just discovered I have the followings: podophilia, mazophilia, pygophilia, legophilia, lip fetishism and neck fetishism. Now I really love women, and I love a woman’s eyes, and I get aroused very often by a woman’s look, but I seriously can’t get aroused by thinking to a woman’s eyes (oligophilia). And are there guys out there that can get aroused by a woman’s nose (nasophilia)??????????? More to come on this subject!
