A bit about me
My first real exposure to transgenders happened at a club called 'The Queen Mary' in North Hollywood, California.
I was the guy dancing with his shirt off, lost in his own little world. I got to be friends with the owner, Bobby, and was on pretty good terms with the security guys as well.
I met the first transgender woman that I had a serious relationship with at that club. She was tall, blond and just about melted me when she introduced herself and offered to buy me a drink. Her name was Jamilah and she told me she was originally from somewhere in the middle east.
We dated for quite some time, but I had never really understood what it was like for her hating a particular part of her body so much, things ultimately did not work out. There were a lot of things I got wrong in that relationship and I have tried to be better informed about what it is like for someone that is transgender;
After that relationship ended I got a little lost, got into some not so great things and realized if I stayed in L.A. much longer, I was probably not going to live much longer.
I decided to start over in Washington State, and it took quite some time to get myself back to a person I actually like. Took some doing but I learned I had been living most of my life as a very angry person. Even today I can have a bit of a temper, but I make a conscious effort to be kinder, more patient, more understanding.
