A Holiday For Our Generation
Our generation needs to make it's own holiday.
Holidays are generally created by accomplishments of mankind, birthday of a great leader, ending an oppression and superstition (occasionally a groundhog comes along and see's his shadow or people putting carved pumpkins on their doorstep).
I wonder which one was the last we've made... It sure has been a while since creating a new one. Is mankind done making holidays? Have we become so controlled by the wealthy that we can no longer overcome oppression? Are we done curing diseases because it's not profitable for these same wealthy people? Is it now impossible for great leaders to rise from nothing and change the course of mankind? Has a force of evil powered by greed succeeded in the ultimate oppression of mankind? Are we all now powerless?
I wonder if the 1% who stole our ability to change our world for the better will create their own holiday once we're completely broken and possibly eradicated from the damage to the planet they have created. Perhaps call it "Wall Street Day", or "Victory Over Democracy Day", or even "Above The Law Day".
The reality is that it's not entirely the fault of the 1% for removing the power of change from mankind. It's in bulk our laziness and indifference to the unjust acts being committed against those around us as we allow the 1% to take this power inch by inch from us. We've become so obsessed with having more that we stab each other in the back to compete for scraps from the table of the wealthy instead of binding together and stabbing them in the front to give us all our fair share.
The decision is ours. Bind together and create a holiday to celebrate when we ended tyranny, or let them ultimately defeat us to celebrate their ultimate domination of mankind. I for one would like to leave behind a legacy rather than disgrace.
