Founded in 1879, the Fujiya Hotel in Hakone is the oldest luxury resort hotel in Japan. The hotel has 146 rooms.

From the beginning Fujiya Hotel aimed to become a resort for international travelers which explains its unique combination of Japanese and Western style architecture.

The Hotel features accommodation in five unique buildings. Four of which (the main building, the West building, Hana Goten building and the Forest building) are on the important cultural assets register.

As well as elegant rooms and suites, the hotel offers a range of services to pamper every guest: hot springs baths and pools, an outdoor swimming pool, a golf course, restaurants and shops, a beauty salon, gardens and a greenhouse, and more.
The spacious garden behind the main building stretches over 5000 square meters and has many seasonal flowers. There is a small water mill around which fireflies-watching events are held in June and July. In the greenhouse nearby you can see and even buy some plants.

The main building, built in 1891, is a beautiful blend of Japanese and European architecture, whereas the Forest Lodge is a more modern building from 1960 that features excellent views of Hakone.

The Kikka-So Inn has only 3 guest suites. It was originally built in 1895 as a villa for the Imperial f a m i l y. Like the other facilities, it has beautiful details. All rooms at the hotel have private baths which are fed with natural hot spring water, or guests may use the communal hot springs baths in the buildings.

The restaurants are all high-quality and open to the public, so are a good way for you to visit the hotel, even if you do not plan to spend the night. The Fujiya Hotel is expensive, but there are frequently discount packages available.
To get to the hotel from Tokyo, take the Kodama shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Odawara Station, about a 35 minute ride. Walk to bus stop #4 or #5 outside the East Exit to catch the bus to the Miyanoshita Onsen Stop, about 30 minutes. It is about a 2 minute walk to the hotel from the stop.
