"If you use my content I'll sue!"
My rant.
This has been building up for a while but....
Why do people continue to put that little message in their profile that says they will sue companies/people who uses the content they post without permission??
Also If you are one of those people who have it in your profile, do you actually believe that having that extra paragraph you copied and pasted from somebody else's profile will actually do anything?
I mean did the advent of car alarms stop people from stealing cars?
Seriously, I highly doubt that most of the users on here have the legal resources to successfully track down and prosecute anyone who takes and uses their content without their permission.
I guaranty most of the content on here has been copied, saved, downloaded, and reposted thousands of times across the internet wether the user whom originally posted it wanted it to be or not.
I would estimate that about 90 percent of the "user" submitted content to this site and many other similar sites, is in reality not amateur but professional commercial pornographic content from companies that actually DO have the legal means to prosecute others for stealing their content. Everybody knows that already I'm sure.
However, if people will easily steal from a large corporation with an actual threat of legal action, why then would they be so easily intimidated by a completely empty threat of legal action from some random person who posted a paragraph about it on their profile?
I mean even after thousands of lawsuits being filed, people are still downloading content like music and videos i*****lly from peer 2 peer file sharing and torrent websites. Lawsuits that were costing thousands of dollars and being brought upon people by large organizations like ASCAP, and the MPAA whose only purpose is to defend clients from copy-write violations and piracy.
My overall point I guess is that as soon as you post ANYTHING on the internet, there is no way you will be able to stop strangers from reading, viewing, or downloading it and using it however they want.
Everything you do on the internet should be considered public because there really is not any privacy when posting content online.
Once someone has that picture you posted they can do what they want with it and there's very little you can do about it no matter how bold you make the font on that fake little message you added to your profile.
In the end, if you don't want strangers to take your photos or videos then only share them with people you absolutely trust. Don't post content online that you're afraid could be stolen and you wont have any problems.
(End Rant)
