Part 26 (Dublin) Note: Boring
Such was the madness of my life that a few hours after leaving a hospital I was in a car with a plastic bag containing my few worldly possessions heading to Dublin with a man I barely knew.
Connor was going back to Dublin to work in his families business and to encourage him to do this his parents had bought a two bedroom apartment fairly close to the city centre which was going to be home for the next couple of years.
Connor was one of these people that I found it easy to get on with as he loved to chat and he just seemed to know lots of stuff without coming across as a know all. He also was a very tolerant of me and my failings which had been demonstrated when he had allowed me to use in his car outside the dealers house on the night it all kicked off with Mikey, however I do remember about halfway into our journey when we stopped to allow me to get out of the car to have a smoke I did have a bit of a panic attack. It suddenly occurred to me that this was a bit all too good to be true and i made a run for it. Fortunately Connor had seen this and was able to apprehend me before I got too far and convince me that he had no real desire to kill me and that I would be safe enough coming with him.
By the time we arrived in Dublin I was starting to get sick from withdrawal, whilst in hospital I had been put on a methadone program and I was desperate to get my hands on my next dose which Connor was keeping for me.
I remember taking it then curling up on the bed of the second bedroom which Connor had told me was mine and just falling asleep. When I awoke it was dark and I was alone, I wandered out the bedroom and looked for Connor. The apartment wasn't that big so it didn't take long to locate that he was asleep in his bed, I crept into his room and stripped off my clothes down to my underwear as they were soaked in d**g sweat and slipped into bed with him and fell asleep again curled up with him.
I awoke the next morning to a large steaming cup of coffee which is always a fine way to start the day, Connor then showed me the rest of the apartment and how everything worked etc, I was desperate for a fag so he showed me to the balcony and at this point he nervously brought up his one and only real rule that he wanted no d**gs to be done of any description inside the apartment which was fair enough.
After taking my next dose of medicine Connor left me alone and went off to see his parents, we agreed that until I was a bit more straightened out we would keep me a secret which was fine with me as my black eyes and busted lip had still not healed, this meant Con had go and see them to stop them coming to see him.
I remember those first few days in Dublin so clearly that even though I was struggling with withdrawal I still loved being away from Limerick and the streets, its hard to put into words the feeling of relief I got from not having to support two peoples junk habit was just mighty.
