Porn star C.J. Laing was born Wendy Miller on August 1, 1956 in New York City. She first became involved in the adult cinema business while living in San Francisco (she was a groupie for the rock band Grateful Dead).

She made her debut in a series of loops called "Juke Joint" made by the Mitchell Brothers of Behind the Green Door (1972) fame. After returning to New York, C.J. appeared in her first theatrical adult feature in 1975 while still in her late teens.

C.J. was inducted into the X-Rated Critics Organization Hall of Fame as a film pioneer and into the AVN Hall of Fame in 2005 for her strong and impressive contributions to the "Golden Age of Porn".
